This Earth Day, we’re pulling back the curtain to share how we’re really doing. Because let’s be honest—hotels aren’t exactly lightweight when it comes to environmental impact. It’s on us to do better. The hospitality industry accounts for around 3% of global emissions, with hotels contributing about 1%. A big chunk of that comes from the energy and water it takes to keep everything running smoothly. Which really puts into perspective why every small step counts.
Environmental action = rewarding our guests
Currently we have 13 of our hotels taking part in the Wingscoins Program, wherein guests can opt out of daily room cleaning in exchange for a free drink at our hotel’s bars. This system allows guests and Sircle Collection to work together, saving water and energy and reducing cleaning chemicals used.
Across 13 hotels between January and March inclusive, 4016 guests opted out of room cleaning. Every opt out saves between 12 – 47 litres (7). This means that so far this year our hotels have saved at least around 48000 litres of water. This is the same as 600 showers (80litre showers)
Additionally, per opt out, Sircle Collection commits to donating €1.50 to Project Wings, a non-profit environmental charity. (8)
Spotlight – Sir Devonshire Square
As of the opening of our most recent hotel – Sir Devonshire Square hotel in London, we have rolled out several interesting projects aimed to help improve our environmental impact.
For example, we have Implemented digital registration at the front desk, reducing paper dependence and improving operational efficiency. Furthermore, to encourage reduced single-use plastic consumption and support more responsible daily habits, guests now benefit from water refilling stations throughout the hotel paired with high-quality reusable glass bottles in the guestrooms.
Additionally, we partner with ByWaters in order to use their Circular waste system – delivering an integrated waste program (source separation, optimized waste streams, and responsible treatment), with clear targets to reduce waste and increase material recovery (9).
