Sir Devonshire Square, our first-ever Sir Hotel in the UK, is opening this autumn and we’re getting closer every day. While we’re busy putting the final touches on this 81-room beauty (if we do say so ourselves), we wanted to give you a sneak peek of the neighbourhood, or neighborhood depending on which side of the pond you’re on, because this corner of London is a true melting pot filled with the best the city has to offer.
P.S. We want you to get ahead of the buzz and enjoy up to 20% off your stay in London.
First, where exactly is Sir Devonshire Square?
We like to say it’s not quite The City, not quite Shoreditch - but somewhere perfectly in between. Nestled in the heart of East London, it really ticks all the boxes. Devonshire Square has been around for over 250 years and has seen many transformations over time. Just around the corner is where Shakespeare opened his very first theatre - aptly named The Theatre. It’s this unique mix, the clash of commerce and a vibrant, colorful art scene, that gives the area its unmistakable magic.
It used to be a busy centre for the textile trade, full of merchants and weavers who helped shape London’s fabric industry. Today, you’ll see that history reflected in the hotel’s design, with materials, patterns, and textures inspired by its textile past, which we really wanted to pay tribute to throughout.

What’s on and what to see?
We can imagine you’re just as curious as we are about what’s around here, and Devonshire Square really packs a good cultural punch. Here, it draws people from all sorts of corners across the city with its regular events and buzzing atmosphere. And there’s always something going on, from events to pop-ups that bring the community together. Here’s a taste of what’s happening:
- Big Screen Summer: All summer, watch Wimbledon and the Olympics outdoors with comfy deck chairs and drinks in the courtyard.
- Lunar New Year: Every February, the square bursts into life with lion dancing, tasty treats, and a real celebration vibe.
- Diversity & Inclusion Festival: In July, enjoy a lively mix of LGBTQIA+ and multicultural performances, live music, and delicious canapés.
- Wellness & Pop-Ups: Yoga classes, art shows, fashion events, live music and more pop up throughout the year.
